Guide for veterinarians educated outside of Denmark

Veterinarians trained outside EU/EEA must have authorisation to practise in the country.

3-step process:

1) Application
The first step is to submit your degree to the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration for approval.

2) Decision
The Administration will contact you once it has assessed your qualifications.

3a) Qualified - but supplement needed
Applicants are often asked to take supplementary courses so that their qualifications are the equivalent of a Danish degree. Any supplementary requirements will be listed in the decision by the Administration. Only if you complete and pass the supplementary courses will you be granted authorisation to work as a veterinarian in Denmark.

You can take supplementary single courses as an Open-University student at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. Please note that you may only take a maximum of 75 ECTS under the Open University.

3b) Not qualified - more than 75 ECTS supplement needed
If the Administration’s decision calls for you to supplement your qualifications with more than 75 ECTS, you must apply for admission to the master's degree programme in veterinary medicine.

You have the option of applying for the master's degree programme in veterinary medicine. If admitted, you will be able to apply for credit transfer for study elements already passed.
