The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences’ foundation for the support of Veterinary Research and Animal Science:

The purpose of the foundation is to provide support for Veterinary Research and Animal Science, for researchers, veterinarians, and veterinary students, as specified below:

  1. support the initiation and completion of scientific studies that are presumed capable of improving the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in dogs and cats and other smaller pets. However, studies where healthy animals are exposed to diseases or other pathogenic conditions cannot be supported by the Fund.
  2. provide study support to deserving needy female and male veterinary students at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen, preferably students from the province.

  3. support veterinary science research and knowledge exchange (knowledge dissemination), nationally and internationally, including the distribution of author awards and support for travel and participation in symposiums for scientists and for other purposes for which public funds normally cannot be used.

  4. give Danish, practicing veterinarians the opportunity to stay abroad for a certain period at veterinary institutions in order to become proficient in veterinary practice and theory for later use in their work in the service of agriculture. As a rule, only projects related to production animals are considered eligible under the bylaws.

  5. support livestock science researchers who wish to undertake research work within the field of livestock husbandry. The scholarship is awarded to master’s students who seek support for the completion of research assignments that the scholarship board considers to be of particular relevance to livestock production. As a rule, projects concerning domesticated animals (including horses) are not considered eligible under the bylaws. The scholarship award may be used for all types of research expenses, including necessary shorter study periods at other research institutions, but not as compensation for the scholarship recipient.

 

Allocation of the foundation’s annual grants

The foundation’s annual grants are distributed among the five purposes as follows:

  • 29% for purpose a
  • 28% for purpose b
  • 18% for purpose c
  • 14% for purpose d
  • 11% for purpose e
