PhD Symposium - "The Spectra of Life: Dimensional Breadth in Biological Research
Registration deadline: 26 October 2022
When: 7-9 December 2022
Where: EMBL Heidelberg, Germany
Abstract submission deadline (for a short talk or a poster): 14 September
The European Molecular Biology Laborator (EMBL) PhD student class of 2025, invites all interested students to participate in the 24th EMBL PhD Symposium - "The Spectra of Life: Dimensional Breadth in Biological Research", which will take place on 7th-9th December 2022 at EMBL Heidelberg.
The symposium highlight the heterogeneity of life (sciences) spanning across different scales and is divided into four topics:
"Extremes in Biology", where we explore the resilience of life with speakers like Ikram Blilou (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia) and Elizabeth Murchison (University of Cambridge, UK). In
"Scales of Complexity" we look at how the simple building blocks of life come together to form these incredibly complex systems together with speakers such as Tobias Erb (MPI for Terrestrial Microbiology, Germany) and Jean Fan (John Hopkins University, USA).
"Size Scales", where speakers like Clarice D. Aiello (UCLA Samueli School of Engineering, USA) and Paul Guichard (Université de Genève, Switzerland) will take us from the extremely small to the “merely small”.
"Temporal Scales" we explore the time dimension of life from fast enzymatic reactions to slow evolutionary processes with Gerhard Hummer (MPI for Biophysics, Germany) and Fyodor Kondrashov (Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology, Japan) among others.
Students are encourage to participate in the form of a short talk or a poster by submitting an abstract no later than 14 September but it is notrequired to participate in the symposium.
Registration for on-site attendance without presenting will be possible until the 26th of October.
