Coaching for PhD students

The Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences offers coaching to PhD students enrolled at The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.

Attending coaching sessions has proved beneficial for PhD students, who are faced with different challenges. Conversations that serve as a guide to help PhD students deal with their challenges can make them thrive better and release energy to focus on their PhD studies.

After just two coaching sessions, writing is fine. Not perfect, but the mental division between 'researching ' vs ' writing ' and the notes about what works for me when I write have made a big difference. Imagine that only two sessions can make such a difference.

Maria Højberg Knudsen, PhD student

Coaching sessions for PhD students typically deal with these topics:

  • Motivation
  • Your expectations and ambitions
  • Planning and time management
  • Efficiency
  • Relation to the PhD supervisor(s)
  • Work/life balance
  • Writing process
  • Dealing with stress

You can get up to five coaching sessions and will be matched with an external certified coach with extensive experience in coaching PhD students. The coaching will be confidential.

You will identify the issue or problem that you wish to discuss with the coach – and the coach will facilitate conversations to help you navigate better at present as well as set goals for the future.

The coaching sessions take place over 2.5-3 months.
