Short description of the thesis
What happens after a medicine reaches the market and millions of people begin to use it? Some events are too rare, or too slow, to appear in the trials that bring a drug to patients. This thesis follows that question into the eye. Using Danish nationwide registers, it studies two groups of widely used medicines — treatments for type 2 diabetes and weight loss, and hormonal contraception — and three conditions that can cost people their sight: glaucoma, blocked blood vessels in the retina, and damage to the optic nerve.
