Short description of the thesis
Acute appendicitis is one of the most common surgical emergencies, yet diagnosing it accurately remains challenging. Clinical decision rules have been developed to help doctors identify patients with appendicitis and guide further investigations and treatment. However, their use in everyday clinical practice remains limited.
This PhD defence evaluates clinical decision rules by identifying common diagnostic parameters, examining their scientific impact, and investigating their use among surgical trainees. Together, these findings contribute to a better understanding of clinical decision rules and their potential role in improving diagnostic strategies, supporting clinical decision-making, and enhancing patient care.
