Short description of the thesis

Using a realist evaluation approach, this PhD thesis aims to explain the key mechanisms underlying components of the Breastfeeding – a good start together intervention and how these interact with context to produce outcomes, particularly for mothers in less resourceful positions. By examining the relational dynamics of breastfeeding support provided by health professionals to families, this thesis investigates the implications for the delivery of equitable breastfeeding support in practice.
