Short description of the thesis

How do children and young people experience being in hospital, and who gets to answer that question? In Denmark, the answer has most often been parents. This PhD presents the development and validation of MyHospitalVoice, the first digital patient-reported experience measure (PREM) for children and adolescents in Denmark. Drawing on translation and cognitive interviews with children and adolescents, co-creation of an age-appropriate digital design, and pilot testing at two hospitals, the thesis examines what matters to children and adolescents in hospital care and how their experiences can be measured reliably. It also examines what it takes to work with young people as peer researchers rather than as research subjects.
