Short description of the thesis:
Asthma and allergy are among the most common chronic diseases in childhood, but their course differs greatly between children. Some children grow out of symptoms, while others continue to have disease for many years. This PhD thesis investigates how asthma and allergic disease develop from childhood into adolescence in the COPSAC2000 cohort. The studies focus on type 2 inflammation, allergic rhinitis, and sensitization to pet allergens, including whether more detailed allergy testing adds clinically relevant information. By linking symptoms with objective measurements of lung function, airway inflammation, and allergy, the thesis aims to improve our understanding of which children are at risk of persistent disease.
