Short description of the thesis:

Rising obesity and declining fertility are key health issues. Parental, especially maternal, obesity increases the risks for the child to develop obesity itself. Furthermore, obesity increases the risk of obstetric complications together with a longer time to pregnancy with natural conception or through fertility treatment. Weight loss before pregnancy, and possibly with new drugs like GLP-1 receptor agonists, may improve outcomes, but their safety in relation to reproduction and pregnancy is unclear. This PhD project aims to study pre-pregnancy weight loss, the effects of GLP-1 drugs before fertility treatment, and exposure of GLP-1 in the periconceptional period on obstetric outcomes.
