Here you will find some useful information about your PhD programme.

On the Graduate School’s website, you can find more detailed information and answers to the most common questions regarding your PhD programme and requirements for applications regarding credit transfer, leave, change of supervisor etc.

Messages from the Graduate School, e.g. reminders about when you must hand in regular assessments, your PhD thesis etc.,  will be sent to your KUmail, which you can access from KUnet, the University of Copenhagen’s common intranet.

Within two weeks after your start date, you should be able to access KUnet. Please note that your email address might not be active before your date of enrolment.

Multi-factor authentication 
When you connect to UCPH's network or systems from home or via a wireless network you have to use multi-factor authentication (MFA).

You can choose between two MFA methods:

  1. Use the free app NetIQ Advanced Authentication
  2. Use a USB security key

Before you can use multi-factor authentication on UCPH, you have to register your preferred choice of the two above mentioned on mfa.ku.dk

Please follow the instructions from UCPH IT support regarding how to use multifactor identification. If you still have problems accessing KUnet or your email, please contact UCPH IT support at 35323232.

 

You can get a complete overview of your enrolment, supervisor group etc. in PhD Planner. You will also be able to find an overview of all the applications you have submitted, and which have been processed by the Graduate School.

You log on to PhD Planner with your UCPH user ID and password*. You can expect to be able to access the portal two weeks after your date of enrolment.

*From 17 November 2022 you need to use multi-factor login (MFA) to login to PhD Planner - if you are not using VPN or wired network.  On our support website, you can see how to create and use MFA at PhD Planner.

 

The publication ”PhD rules and regulations at SUND” gives you basic information about the structure and requirements of the PhD education. If you have questions concerning the rules regulating your PhD, you can always look it up here.

 

All courses offered by the Graduate School are listed in our online course catalogue. Via the course catalogue, you can manage your course registrations and ECTS credits.

Mandatory course in responsible conduct of research (RCR) 1 and 2

All PhD students enrolled at the Graduate School are required to participate in the mandatory courses: Responsible Conduct of Research 1: An Introduction and Responsible Conduct of Research 2: Getting Ready for Submission of Manuscripts and Thesis.

RCR 1: An Introduction
During this course, you are introduced to principles of responsible conduct of research. You need to participate in the mandatory course RCR 1: An Introduction within the first twelve months of your PhD programme.

RCR 2: Getting Ready for Submission of Manuscripts and Thesis
The course will prepare you for submitting - responsibly and successfully - your thesis as well as papers to scientific journals.

You must participate in the course before submitting your thesis and preferably in the last year of your PhD. We recommend that you take the RCR 2 course after having passed the RCR 1 course.

Both courses are followed by a written assignment which you must pass in order to submit your PhD thesis.

Scientific Project Planning: Understand how to use the most important project management methods and instruments in order to improve your own research. (ECTS 1.5).

Scientific illustration workshop: Learn how to make excellent scientific illustrations for your papers and posters in Adobe Illustrator.

To help you get the best possible start to your PhD studies, The Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences offers an introduction course for new PhD students. The course will provide you with insights and tools to take charge, manage your project, your research education, and your work-life balance. You will get an overview of the PhD program and the skills and competences necessary to become a mature and independent researcher.

The Graduate School recommends that you complete the course within the first 1-2 months after your enrolment. The course will be mandatory for all new PhD students at SUND from January 2025, and it will be a requirement to complete the course within the first 6 months.

You have to change your research environment during your PhD studies. This is a requirement according to the PhD Order.  There are various ways to plan your change of research environment so it fits into the progress and topic of your project.

There are no exceptions to this requirement, so make sure to start the planning early.

When planning a stay abroad, you can use this advice for inspiration.

 

If you are absent due to maternity/paternity leavelong-term illnesspart-time study or leave of absence, please find more information by following the links, so your PhD study can be extended accordingly by the Graduate School.

 

 

 

 

 

The University of Copenhagen uses an electronic access control system across the whole university. The ID card grants access to the buildings and offices related to one´s job location.

To get your UCPH ID card, please log on to KUnet, click on “Self Service” and upload your picture for the ID card.

After approximately 10 days you will receive your ID card by mail.
