New Centre for Core Facilities Strengthens Research Infrastructures

With the establishment of the Centre for Core Facilities, the faculty aims to strategically develop the core facilities area and to strengthen the link between the facilities in the centre and the research environments across the faculty. Over time, the CCF will also work to make services more user-oriented through transparent pricing, standardised service levels, and streamlined bookings.
“Core facilities are essential to research at SUND. As models and techniques become increasingly complex, so does the need for specialists to support research infrastructures and services. With the new centre, SUND takes the lead in developing a new way of organising core facilities – not only to support research more effectively, but also to create a more efficient and sustainable model that makes better use of resources across the faculty and beyond,” says Vice-Dean for Research, Hans Bräuner.
State-of-the-art technologies
The centre officially launched on 1 September bringing together the following faculty-wide core facilities:
- Animal Core Facility (ACF) – formerly the Department for Experimental Medicine (AEM)
- Core Facility for Integrated Bioimaging (CFIB) – a merger of the Core Facility for Integrated Microscopy (CFIM) and the Panum Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Core Facility (NMR).
- Proteomics Research Infrastructure (PRI)
Under the new framework, the facilities will continue their current operations while benefiting from shared administrative support, and the centre will enable a more cross-cutting approach across research models and technologies. More core facilities are expected to join the centre in the coming years.
Centre Director Clara Prats sees the establishment of the CCF as a unique opportunity to enhance the faculty's research infrastructures and create even better conditions for research, innovation and education:
“Excellent research depends on excellent core facilities. With the establishment of the Centre for Core Facilities, SUND recognises the strategic importance of strengthening this area. In this new organisation, bridging people and facilities, we as core facility staff can support research groups in new and more effective ways, thinking across research models and technologies, helping to connect them into the right workflows and ensuring that researchers have the best possible conditions to succeed.”
