SUND researchers receive nearly 14 million for basic research
With this autumn's grants from the Carlsberg Foundation, 10 SUND researchers receive a total of nearly DKK 14 million for research on, among other things, the importance of musicians and animals for humans during critical illness.
The Carlsberg Foundation awarded grants for free research in the autumn of 2024, and 10 SUND researchers received a total of DKK 13,752,344 million for both research and fellowships.
With a focus on high quality at all stages of research, the grants have been awarded to researchers at different stages of their careers and for both research and infrastructure.
9 SUND researchers receive grants for research infrastructure and fellowships, while Associate Professor at the Department of Public Health, Anja Marie Bornø Jensen, receives a Semper Ardens Accelerate Grant of DKK 7 million for a medical anthropology research project.
The project will investigate the effect of musicians and animals on critically ill patients. The grant is awarded to newly appointed associate professors in a permanent position to consolidate an independent research group or research environment and runs over three to four years.
"I am very pleased with the opportunity for this particular research project because we can test something with great potential. We work a lot on integrating innovation into the healthcare system, but we hope that with this project we can also focus on bringing the emotional aspect into healthcare," says Anja Marie Bornø Jensen.
The researchers will conduct fieldwork at Danish hospitals and hospices to observe how musicians and animals interact with patients, families, and staff.
"Musicians and animals provide moments, interactions, and experiences that we do not have words for. We hope that the project can highlight this special interaction so that it can hopefully become an offer for more patients in the future," says Anja Marie Bornø Jensen.
