Funding for research into quinoa and brain health in the elderly
The Independent Research Fund Denmark supports two projects at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences focussing on green research and the elderly.
Two projects at SUND are funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF). The money goes towards green research and research in the elderly and aging.
At SUND, the green research will dive into the ethical challenges of gene-editing plant-based foods such as quinoa when adapting them to a Nordic climate.
The grant from DFF for research into the elderly is used at SUND to investigate the connection between physical fitness, depressive symptoms and brain health in the aging part of the population.
The grants are part of the foundation's two programmes “Independent green research” and “Research on elderly and ageing”. The aim of the grants is to contribute solutions to the climate and environmental challenges facing the world and to shed light on the psychological, physical and social resilience of the elderly.
Congratulations:
- Professor Mette Nordahl Svendsen (Department of Public Health), who receives funding for “Settling Quinoa: Plants Edited for the Green Transition (PLANT:E)”
- Clinical Professor Carl-Johan Oskar Boraxbekk (Department of Clinical Medicine), who receives funding for “Translating physical robustness to psychological well-being and brain health in aging – a 10 year longitudinal study”
