Nine SUND researchers receive portion of giant grant for psychiatric research

The Independent Research Fund Denmark is allocating 100 million Danish kroner to support excellent research ideas aimed at improving the conditions within psychiatry.

In total, nine researchers from the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences have received support from Danmarks Fri Forskningsfond (DFF) to conduct research in psychiatry.

The projects range from the acute treatment of psychiatric patients to research on specific connections in the brain in relation to alcohol and schizophrenia.

The grants are part of a large fund of 100 million Danish kroner, distributed among 33 research projects under the theme "Improving the Framework for Psychiatry."

The funds will be used for research in the prevention and treatment of psychiatric issues such as eating disorders, psychiatric medication during breastfeeding, depression, and the use of coercion in psychiatry, as reported by DFF.

  • Clinical Lecturer Lone Baandrup (IKM) received support for "Advancing the quality of treatment and care in emergency psychiatry."

  • Clinical Professor Anders Fink-Jensen (IKM) received support for "Effects of the GLP-1 receptor agonist semaglutide on alcohol consumption and alcohol cue-induced brain activation in patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia and comorbid alcohol use disorder."

  • Clinical Professor Maj Vinberg (IKM) received support for "Is the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist semaglutide able to alleviate mood in patients with major depressive disorder and overweight or obesity? Sema-Mood."

  • Lecturer Carsten Hjorthøj (IFSV) received support for "PEGASUS – Mapping and improving treatment for patients with anxiety, depression, or emotionally unstable personality disorder."

  • Clinical Professor Merete Osler (IFSV) received support for "Socioeconomic differentials in treatment and survival in major depression."

  • Clinical Professor Merete Nordentoft (IKM) received support for "Supported accommodation - a black box."

  • Clinical Professor Anne Katrine Pagsberg (IKM) received support for "OPUS YOUNG trial: Benefits, harms, and health-economic effects of early intervention services in first-episode psychosis in youths aged 12-17 years."

  • Assistant Professor Maria Marti Castaner (IFSV) recieved support for "Improving MATERnal mental health for immigrant women (MATER)"
