Intrinsically disordered proteins as therapeutic targets: challenges and opportunities

Despite their functional relevance, the intrinsically disordered domains of multidomain proteins are considered highly challenging drug targets and, therefore, not prioritized by pharmaceutical companies. In this talk, Dr. Xavier Salvatella will present his investigation of the mechanism of action of the only drug-like small molecule targeting an intrinsically disordered domain that has reached clinical trials. He will also show how this information is used to increase its potency and argue that, in some cases, it will be possible to target intrinsically disordered domains with small molecules.
