Prof. Sarah R. Davies: What’s the point of public communication? Exploring science communication’s role in society -

Dept. of Science and Technology Studies, University of Vienna, Austria
What are the purposes of public communication of science? In this talk I explore this question, suggesting that we can categorise its role in society in a number of ways. Importantly, these point to a set of shared assumptions about the kind of societies that we live in. We care about science communication - I suggest - because we care about ideals such as equity and democracy in our shared lives.
