Aligning expectations improves co-operation with your supervisor

From 1 January 2016, all new applicants must complete an expectation alignment sheet together with their principal supervisor. The sheet must be completed, before or no later than three months after enrolment.

Early alignment of expectations between supervisor and PhD student is a key to effective co-operation during a PhD project.

Structuring the dialogue

The expectation alignment sheet helps structuring the dialogue by guiding supervisor and PhD student through a number of co-operation issues, usually relevant for PhD projects.

The supervisor and PhD student sign and save the completed expectation alignment sheet and revisit it in connection with regular assessments, and if needed during the PhD project.

Also recommended for existing PhD students

Use of the expectation alignment sheet is also recommended for students who applied before 1 January 2016.
