HONOUR

Torben Hansen, professor, PhD at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Centre for Basic Metabolic Research has been awarded the Erhoff Prize of DKK 250,000 for his research on diabetes.

Professor Torben Hansen has been awarded the Erhoff Prize 2015 in recognition of his highly innovative and clinically important research on the hereditary causes of diabetes. The ceremony took place at the Carlsberg Academy in Copenhagen at the 17th of June.

Each year the non-profit Erhoffs Familiefond (Erhoff’s Family Foundation) awards this personal prize of DKK 250,000 to honour one or more persons or institutions whose contributions and/or unusually significant efforts in terms of research on or treatment of diseases deserve particular recognition.

“Torben Hansen is an original, competent and visionary researcher of molecular and translational diabetology and diabetic genetic epidemiology. His thorough explorations have led to numerous finds in terms of molecular causes of metabolic diseases”, reads part of the motivation for awarding Torben Hansen this prize.

About the Erhoff’s Family Foundation

Thor O. A. Erhoff was born in Copenhagen on 15 May 1878. At the age of 20, he joined the Royal Life Guards and pursued a military career. In 1916 he was appointed Captain of the Artillery, and in 1924 he left the military to become director of the company Dansk Gasaccumulator (Danish Gas Accumulator), a branch of a larger Swedish company, which eventually changed its name to AGA. Thor Erhoff died in 1939 and his son, Poul Erhoff, the founder of the Erhoff’s Family Foundation, also headed the industrial gas company for a while. The Foundation wishes to honour one or one or more persons or institutions whose contributions and/or unusually significant efforts in terms of research on or treatment of diseases deserve particular recognition.
