Academic and Student Life at the Faculty
What is it like to study at the Faculty of Health Sciences? Our students tell all...
On the academic environment
"There's a really stimulating environment at the Faculty, with a lot of focus on research - I'm a medical student, but even then I hear about different research projects - you are exposed to a lot of different ideas here." -Hannes Kohnke
"The teaching offered at the Faculty is really great...good, helpful doctors and teachers who you can always approach, even after class or a lecture." -Zena
"We do quite a bit of group work, where we get to go over important themes. It's good because you can speak aloud and digest things that you perhaps didn't quite grasp or understand." -Eda Marie
On student life
"The best thing about the Faculty is student life. There's a good atmosphere, which I think is really important, especially when the academic work gets tough. It's important to have people you can turn to for help and people are really good at backing each other up." -Zena
"There are all kinds of people and types here. It's quite often that you get to talk to people you would otherwise never get to meet...you can often find yourself involved in interesting discussions at the Friday Bar or even in the hallway." -Hannes Kohnke
"People are really open here and nice. I found it easy to make friends. A lot of people also make friends through the teams that they are assigned to during their course - team work helps you to socialise." -Sophie Larsson
On speaking another language
"As a student from Sweden, I think people have been really tolerant about the fact that I don't speak fluent Danish - this can be really important when you are sitting exams and your grammar is not quite right! As for speaking English, everyone speaks English here. I've just started work in a laboratory for clinical parasitology and we all speak English, because there are so few who can speak the Danish language." -Hannes Kohnke
On student clubs and professional associations
"There are loads of professional groups here - if you are interested in surgery e.g. there's a group for surgeons, where you can learn to suture a bit and sew and make incisions - obviously not on real people! Or if you are interested in pediatrics or want to train as an ambulance doctor, there are other groups that you can sign up for...The groups are really interesting...show you what work as a medical doctor can really be, so that you aren't just simply working within the academic framework of the school, and there are always lots of good events." -Zena
On studying in Copenhagen
"It's great to be able to study in a capital city and it's easy to meet people in Copenhagen. There's lots of things on offer in the city. I live in a dormitory, where I get to meet people from all over the world." -Christian Zambach
